Start with the days you will actually work
A two-week Bali stay with four laptop workdays is a different scenario from using only a phone. Write down which days need a backup connection and assign a data budget to each device. The numbers below are hypothetical allocations, not measured video-call consumption or a promise that a package will be enough.
Build one phone-and-laptop budget
Assume 0.5 GB per day for the phone: 14 × 0.5 = 7 GB. Allocate 3 GB on each of four laptop days: 4 × 3 = 12 GB. Together that is 19 GB; adding a 20% planning buffer gives 22.8 GB. A 30 GB total package is a comparison starting point for this example, with at least 14 days of validity. Phone-only use under the same assumptions is 8.4 GB with the buffer, rounded to 10 GB. Change the allocations to fit your own use.
Why daily and total allowances are not interchangeable
A hypothetical 1 GB/day allowance over 14 days has 14 daily quotas. On a workday in our example, phone and laptop need an allocated 3.5 GB together, above that daily quota. Unused allowance on another day does not establish rollover. Check reset time, rollover rules, full-speed limits and reduced speed in the exact package. More total gigabytes alone do not solve a daily bottleneck.
Confirm hotspot before comparing price
Google notes that carriers may limit or charge for tethering. Confirm permission, any separate hotspot quota and whether reduced-speed data can be shared. The hotspot filter selects permission recorded in our catalogue; it does not test the connection or guarantee speed. Unknown permission is not confirmation. Check the final package terms and full price with the provider.
Check the Bali locations where you need to connect
Identify the exact package’s local networks and check the locations of your accommodation and work stops. Indonesia coverage does not prove reception at a particular Bali villa, in Lombok or on a boat. Keep another connection available for an important call and test the setup before relying on it. This guide contains no network field tests.
Keep background traffic in the plan
Review laptop downloads, backups and updates before connecting. Apple explains that Low Data Mode reduces background network use on supported iPhones and iPads. This is a device setting, not extra package data; it does not establish a laptop’s consumption. Check actual device usage during the trip and revise your budget.
Compare the example, then check activation
The 10 GB link is the phone-only example; the 30 GB link includes our four hypothetical laptop days. Both use total data and at least 14 days, and the work link requires listed hotspot permission. These are minimum comparison filters, not guaranteed suitability or recommendations of a particular provider. Check what starts expiry, the activation window and your travel dates before installing.
